In 1835 Texas militia pushed back against the threats to their freedoms from Mexican tyrant Santa Ana. When Texans refused to surrender their canon, Santa Ana responded. Thus the battle of Gonzalez became the first engagement of the Texas Revolution and the origin of the Come and Take It flag.
